Our Story

Hi and thanks for joining us at African Violet World! We’re a group of hobby growers with a life-long interest in African violets. The African violet community around the world is so inclusive and friendly, with lots of successful growers happy to share great information with other African violet enthusiasts, especially beginners! So, we decided to put together this little resource to help others indulge their passion for growing these beautiful plants.

We’re bunch of gardening nerds with a particular passion for African violets. All of us have literally mapped our houses for the best dappled, humid and warm conditions and there isn’t a windowsill that meets that brief without an African Violet sitting on it!

Here at African Violet world, we’ve started out by answering the most common questions we hear from those learning how to care for their first African violet plant. We hope you find the information helpful. We’ll be adding “Ultimate Guides” to cover topics such as propagation, watering, fertilizing and cloning as we go along and will create some videos to keep things interesting.

There will be lots of experiments along the way – check back regularly as we conduct cloning and propagating experiments, and we’ll document our attempts to rescue African violets that are near death and on sale for 50c at the local shops (you know the ones – we can’t help but rescue them and try our best!) Nothing gives us greater joy that helping African violet fans around the world to do their thing. 🙂

Stay awhile and pick up some tips and tricks to maximise your success with this wonderful hobby. And if you have a request and would like us to write on a particular topic regarding African violets, or any Gesneriad really, let us know. (We love streps, sinningias and epicias as much as we love AVs!) There’s nothing better than hearing from our readers and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for joining us in this wonderful community of growers.

Thank you for joining us at African Violet World! If you’re here, it’s because you love these amazing plants as much as we do. I hope we can inform, educate, enlighten and entertain you on our favourite topic. Happy growing!

African violets might be the world’s most popular house plant, but here at African Violet World, we know they’re anything but common. 🙂
